What you haven’t been told about migration-Tanmay B

Mass immigration is the most cardinal issue embedded in the minds of the people of Europe.  Consequently, it is most unfortunate that an open discourse pertaining to this affair has not been permitted by the media, political class and the establishment left. Albeit this is quite the imputation, I seek to justify it in the course of this article. I also aim to bring to light the plethora of facts about and consequences of mass migration that remain largely unheard of.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has said that as many as seven out of ten people who cross the Mediterranean Sea into Europe are economic migrants. European Union Vice President Frans Timmerman says that six out of ten migrants that come into Europe do so for economic reasons and are not refugees. This is testified to by the fact that many migrants (especially those arriving at Europe via the Mediterranean) are from North African countries like Morocco and Tunisia, which are not plagued by conflict. The Vice President’s figures came from The European Border and Coast Guard Agency. As the Sydney Morning Herald reports, Serbian Police say that 90% of those arriving in Serbia from Macedonia claim to be Syrian, albeit they have no documents to prove it.  Trashed ID cards belonging to Pakistanis and Bangladeshis have been found.  In conclusion, many of these people are not fleeing war or persecution, but are attracted by a higher standard of living.

It is nothing short of vital for this piece to encompass the economic aspects of this topic. A study by the Center for Research and Analysis of Migration at University College London showed that migration to Britain from outside the European Economic Area (EEA-the EU plus Norway, Iceland and Lichtenstein) had cost the country around 118 billion pounds(from 1995-2001) meaning that the amount these immigrants took from the country was 118 billion pounds more than the amount they paid in taxes. Only migrants from the EEA made a positive contribution, namely that of 4 billion pounds. Britain is suffering from a housing shortage and requires 240,000 homes ( a city the size of Liverpool) to be built every year.  In Sweden(which has the highest level of immigration relative to the population size in  Europe) their prevails a housing shortage so chronic that a new city of Stockholm has to be built to accommodate everyone.  According to a report by the house of commons, the unemployment rate among Muslim migrants in Britain is twice that of the general population and 41% of the Muslim population is economically inactive, while the figure for the general population is 21.8%.  According to the Institute of Labour Market and Employment Research, of the 400000 migrants registered with employment agencies in Germany, only 34000 (8.5%) got a job  between December 2015 and November 2016.  Statistics from the German Federal Labour Agency shows that employment among refugees stands at just 17%.  All in all, the unemployment rate for all migrants in Europe is nearly twice that of natives, according to EU statistics office Eurostat. This is despite the fact that one of the arguments for mass migration was the narrative that migrants would be beneficial to the economy and get jobs.

In addition to national security, what is arguably the most crucial aspect of this dialogue is the societal and cultural effects on Europe and assimilation of migrants (or lack thereof).  To start off with the most extreme, hundreds of Europeans have been killed or maimed in Islamic Terror attacks in the past few years- from the Manchester bombing to the November 2015 Paris attacks to the Berlin Christmas Market Attack, to name only a few.  Detrimental consequences of mass migration are not, however, restricted to rarities like terror attacks.  In Sweden, sex crimes have doubled since 2012, lethal violence has increased 29 % since 2014 and gun violence has increased 84% in the past 9 years. The Swedish Government actually stopped recording the ethnicity of criminals in 2005. Yes, 2005- the year whose report showed immigrants to be vastly over represented in crime statistics. Funny coincidence, is it not? According to the report, Immigrants were 5.5 times more likely to be rape suspects. When talking of bathhouses, 80% of perpetrators of sexual crimes are newly arrived migrants, according to the Swedish Police report. There are around 55 putative ‘no go zones’ in Sweden, most of which are inhabited by migrants.Mailmen have stopped delivering to some of these areas and ambulance personnel have to wear riot gear before entering some of these areas.

This tale of vitriol is no different in other European countries.  The first case in point is a study in Lower Saxony, Germany. Violent crime in the region went down by 29.1% between 2007 and 2014, but it was up by over 10% by the end of 2016. 92.1% of the increase in crime is owing to migrants. By 2016, the crime rates among migrants rose  by 50%, according to the German interior ministry. Other data from the interior ministry shows that 402000 crimes have been committed by migrants since 2014.  On New Year’s eve(2015), Cologne, Germany was witness to the mass molestation of German women at the hands of Arab and North African men, according to eyewitnesses and the police. London too, is seeing a vehement surge in violent crimes. Its crime rate overtook New York’s for the first time in modern history, as per statistics from 2018. Leading surgeons have compared London to an Afghan war zone, with multiple stabbings being a daily occurrence.

The cultural attitudes of refugees/ middle-eastern migrants paint an equally virulent portrait. According to a poll by the agency ICM, 52% of British Muslims think that homosexuality should be illegal, while the figure for the general population was only 11%.  In a Gallup survey that interviewed 500 British Muslims, not a single one believed that homosexuality is morally acceptable. In Germany, 19% of Muslims  and 68% of the general public said that homosexuality was moral, while in France the numbers were 35% of Muslims and 78% of the general public. According to ICM,  39% of  British Muslims agreed that a woman should always obey her husband, while the general public figure was 5%.  Also,

-A third of British Muslim students believe that killing in the name of Islam is justified (WikiLeaks’ publication of U.S. diplomatic cables.)

78% of UK Muslims support punishment for people who draw cartoons of the Prophet Muhammed (NOP research, reported by CBS News)

-43% of British Muslims support and only 22% oppose the introduction of Islamic/sharia law (whose extreme aspects  call for the death of Muslims who become non-Muslims, people who criticize the Koran, homosexuals and non Muslim men who marry Muslim women.)

Thus, mass immigration has also led to the importation of a colossal number of people who hold beliefs that are the complete antithesis of European culture and values. While it is obviously unconscionable to generalize all immigrants or middle-Easterners as bad people, the following facts about migration cannot be negated while having an honest discussion about migration. If they are, the discourse is rendered disingenuous.  This article is not impartial and provides what is largely one side of the story. But the reason (a valid one, if I may say so) is that this is the side that remains unheard of or ignored. I could write another article about how governments, the media and the left censors this side of the argument. Again, this side of the spectrum must be heard if an authentic dialogue pertaining to the humongous and crucial issues immigration and the refugee crisis is to take place.
