The recent suicide of a Bollywood actor, Sushant Singh Rajput, left people speechless. If the speculations are to be believed, he was rappelling depression and had mental health problems that led him to take a drastic step like this. Bollywood, under the layers, has been classified as being a classic nepotism example which is a nightmare for the outsiders. The main focus, however, remains the same. Depression, which is a major cause of suicide among many youngsters. Just because, a person is famous, we got to know that mental health holds a pace in the topmost shelf. However, owing to the situation of COVID 19, as of yet, the lockdown has taken a toll on the mental health of many youngsters and adults alike. Being stuffed ll the time indoors does impact the sanity of the mind. However, due to the lack of ample resources in the country, despite the highly qualified array of psychologists and psychiatrists, still many people consider suicide as an option. It is still considered a taboo if any person is feeling unwell- mentally and goes to visit a shrink for the same especially, in a society, where males are seen as an icon of power, who can’t be allowed to fall and crumble. This mentality has taken the Indian society by the grip, and this needs to change, for better inclusion of the mental health conditions of the citizens and youth, as a whole. It shouldn’t be a matter of hush conversations- rather bold messages should be sent out to help people tackle depression and other issues. We need to train our youth and teach them not to be gender-biased, and embrace all the mental health issues together and deal with it, rather than running away from it. As a society, it is important for us to notice the red flags, posted by the people who are suffering silently and don’t show or display it. If we train our youth, to be better citizens and sensitive on the inside to understand and stand for people who are in actual need of emotional support, we can evolve better as a society and a country.
If issues are sensitized and tackled with precision and care, we shall not see rising and talented stars and people like Sushant Singh Rajput quitting on life.
